Aor Ar7030 Plus Manual3/14/2021
The next biggest issue is low dynamic range due to the low number of bits in the ADC - with IMO the SDRP Play and AirSpy at 12 bits being the minimum for satisfactory performance, but 16 bit being outside my price range at the moment. David.
Aor Ar7030 Software Will OperateUnfortunately no power supply or remote, but I discovered RxWings free software will operate this rx.Ill make a test video when I collect my power supply from storage. For those not familiar with this receiver: It covers 0-32MHz and was made in Derbyshire, UK.WRTH Best Table Top Receiver award for 1996-97) Radio Netherlands review via MW Circle: Edit: stock photo added. Peter Wilson now safely in Blackpool, UK - having survived the desert dust and 40 degree temperatures in Iraq (I also bought an Icom IC-R7100 for VHF DX from the same shop). A superb receiver. ![]() I bought it in 1998-ish and used a random wire thrown up the side of the roof for MW DXing lol. It worked though as I remember hearing US and South Americans on it. Sadly about 18 months after buying it bad QRM started up which wiped out any chances of DXing on MW and lower HF. BW Broadcast RBRX Encore, Kenwood L-1000T, Yamaha T-2, Denon TU-800L, Kenwood KT-1100SD (modified), Yamaha T-85, Sony XDR-F1HD tuners, horizontal Krner 9.2 beam (Antennenland version), Yaesu G-450C rotator. Aor Ar7030 Mods On ItIt had all the mods on it - Synchronous AM, NBFM, preamp, direct entry keyboard, ni-cad batteries. The ni-cads have long since been removed and if I use it it gets fed from a 12vAH sealed lead acid battery. Maybe one day if I get the urge I will set it up side by side with my SDR Play and see how they compare. David. I bought mine in the late nineties as well and would not sell it. ![]() I bought a Lowe HF225 for the French shack - which I rarely use as though the ergonomics of the 7030 are certainly not optimal I prefer its remote to the HF225s. The 225 also does not have the frequency readout to 10 Hz which the 7030 has. Straight shoot-out between the 7030 and the SDR Play would see the 7030 walk all over it single frequency wise IMHO. However youre not comparing satsumas with tangerines so to speak. Both the 7030 and NRD 535D are more sensitive than the Perseus though its the Perseus which gets the day-in day-out usage due to its wideband recording facilities and infinite digital filtering abilities. Strange to think the venerable 7030 is well and truly old-school though it was a damn- good school. Googling will tell you the story of its talented designer John Thorpe (another British success story) and his abortive attempts to make the successor receiver the 7070. Stuart. IMO we have long way to go before we get a high performance SDR receiver at the sub 200 price. Which completely ignores the hundreds of s spent on the computer needed to run it). That isnt a complaint because it is only 3-4 years since the world of SDR was opened up to the wider masses when the humble RTL-dongle was hacked.Think how long it took to go from TRF receivers to superhets and then for SSB to arrive on the scene - decades, Then a few more decades to get to the performance levels of the AOR7030. For me the biggest issue is lack of filtering - I read the other day of the transformation in MW performance that an Elad owner achieved with a low pass filter for MW (AFAIK it has only a 30MHz LPF for HF). The side issue is the clash between wanting wideband receivingrecording facilities and good filters to reject out of band signals that appear in under-sampling mode. ![]()
